IRVINE, Calif. --- In an abundance of caution with the current surge of the Omicron variant, UCI has canceled its annual Alumni game scheduled for Jan. 8.
"At this time, it is important that our programming is in alignment with the health and safety guidelines of the UC Irvine campus, Orange County and California," head coach
Dan Klatt said. "To safeguard the competitive opportunities for our current student-athletes, and to protect the health of our alumni and team, we believe it is in our best interest to cancel our 2022 alumni game. UCI women's water polo is looking forward to reestablishing our annual alumni game in the near future, and we are committed to making our alumni proud during the 2022 season. We thank everyone for their continued support."
The Anteaters are slated to begin the season at the ASU Cross Conference Challenge Jan. 21-23 in Tempe, Ariz. UCI will face host Arizona State in the opening game.Â
