'Eaters Open LMU Invite with Four Singles Wins

LOS ANGELES - The UC Irvine men's tennis team squared off against Utah State in singles and the University of Utah in doubles on the first day of the LMU Invitational Friday in Los Angeles.
In singles, the Anteaters won four of their six matches against the Aggies with all four victories coming in straight sets. At the top of the lineup, Riccardo Roberto took care of business with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over David Cierny.
Mike Mkrtchian also dispatched Bodin Zarkovic, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 2, while Ali Amiri secured an identical 7-6, 6-3 victory against Roko Savin at No. 4. Matthew Sah rounded out the quartet as he upended Javier Ruiz, 6-4, 6-4, at the sixth spot.
The 'Eaters also went 1-2 in doubles against Pac-12 member Utah. The new pairing of Amiri and Mike Mkrtchian picked up the win against Jayson Blando/Rian Ta, 6-2.
UC Irvine will return to the courts tomorrow for the second day of the LMU Invitational.
