IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team will make their way to the Santa Clarita Valley for the Bill Cullum Invitational, Oct. 11-12, at The Oaks Club at Valencia.
After 25 years at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, this year's Bill Cullum Invitational will be contested at The Oaks Club course which will be a par-72, 7,115-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, while the final round is set for Tuesday. Both days will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The 'Eaters are part of a 12-team field that also features Cal State Fullerton, Cal State San Marcos, Hawai'i, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State and host CSUN.
UCI's 5-count-4 lineup includes Darien Zhao, Nathan Irwin, Henry Fitzhugh, Jin Nakao and Kolbe Irei. Ethan Han will also be competing as an individual.
LAST TIME OUT
UC Irvine opened its 2021-22 season at the Nick Watney Invitational, Oct. 1-2, finishing sixth out of 14 teams. The Anteaters combined for a 5-count-4 score of 872. Darien Zhao was UCI's top finisher as he tied for 15th at 3-over 216 (73-69-74). Nathan Irwin added a top-20 showing, climbing five spots in the standings on the final day to tie for 19th with a 54-hole score of 217 (71-74-72). Jin Nakao and Kolbe Irei tied for 31st at 221, while Henry Fitzhugh rounded out the lineup in a tie for 36th (222). Competing as an individual, Johnny Bai also tied for 27th at 220.

• UCI has competed in the Bill Cullum Invitational in each of the last eight years the tournament has been held.
• During that stretch, the Anteaters had a high finish of second in 2016.
• The 2020 event was canceled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• All five 'Eaters in the team's 5-count-4 lineup also competed in the Nick Watney Invitational.
• Sophomore Darien Zhao led the way in the season opener, tying for 15th overall.
• He carded his second collegiate sub-70 score in the second round.
• Zhao was UCI's top finisher at the 2021 Big West Championships, placing 11th as a true freshman.
