IRVINE, Calif. -Β The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team is back in action in Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend. The Anteaters are sending 18 student-athletes to compete in 12 events at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Feb. 7-8.

The meet gets underway Friday with the weight throw at 2 p.m. (PST) and the long jump at 2:15 p.m. (PST). The 200m, unseeded 400m, 600m and 3000m will also be contested in the evening. A full day of events is then slated for Saturday, starting with the shot put at 8:30 a.m. (PST). Action on the track commences shortly after with the 60m hurdles qualifying round at 9 a.m. (PST). The NM Collegiate Classic features four ranked teams - No. 4 Texas, No. 7 Kentucky, No. 12 New Mexico and No. 23 Texas Tech.
STORYLINES
β’ This is the second time in two weeks UC Irvine will be competing at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
β’ The Albuquerque Convention Center is also the site of the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships.
β’ Zani Meaders broke her own indoor school record in the 400m with a time of 55.70 at the MLK Collegiate Invite.
β’ At the same meet, Meaders anchored the 4x400 relay that established a program-best 3:50.18.
β’ Sha'Maya Flanagan, Mychal Robinson and Tess Mathes were also part of the record-breaking 4x400.
β’ Citlali Pichardo (TJ) and Jaida Robinson (60m, 200m) are set to make their indoor collegiate debuts this weekend.
β’ After traveling to the same four indoor meets over the last five seasons, UCI has switched it up in 2020.
β’ For the first time since 2014, the Anteaters started the campaign at the UW Preview in Seattle.
β’ They will also be competing in the New Mexico Collegiate Classic for the first time since 2012.
β’ The 'Eaters return 17 individuals from last year's roster, but only nine competed in an indoor meet.
β’ UC Irvine brings in 16 newcomers, including 13 true freshmen.
β’ So far this season, nine Anteaters have established 15 marks that rank among the program's all-time top-10.

β’ The 'Eaters broke two indoor school records at the Dr. MLK Jr. Collegiate Invitational, Jan. 24-25.
β’ Sophomore Zani Meaders topped her own 400m standard with an altitude-adjusted time of 55.70.
β’ Meaders, junior Sha'Maya Flanagan, senior Mychal Robinson & freshman Tess Mathes also broke the 4x400 record.
β’ The quartet finished sixth out of 21 teams with a program-best 3:50.18.
β’ Meaders (25.22) and Flanagan (25.43) both established top-10 times in the 200m as well.
β’ Robinson took ninth in the 60m hurdles with a career-best 8.50, moving her up to No. 2 in school history.
β’ Mathes notched a lifetime-best 1:38.56 in the 600m, which ranks fourth on UCI's all-time charts.
β’ Sophomore Hannah Chau added a top-five showing in the 3000m (10:28.48).
β’ Senior Brianna Villanueva placed fourth in a field of 32 athletes in the weight throw (57-08.5).

β’ Brianna Villanueva entered the 2020 campaign ranked second in the weight throw with a then PR 56-01.
β’ At the season-opening UW Preview, she improved her lifetime best by two feet with a toss of 58-01.25.
β’ She was only three inches shy of the school record set by former teammate Barbara Coward last year.
β’ Sophomore Tayla Crenshaw has cracked UCI's top-10 in the weight throw (49-05.5) and shot put (37-05.75).
β’ Sophomore Lorraine Nance recorded the Anteaters' fourth-best indoor triple jump mark at 38-01.25 last year.
β’ Senior Je'Neal Ainsworth came in at No. 10 in her 'Eater debut with a leap of 36-02.25 at the UW Preview.
β’ Ainsworth is a graduate transfer from San Diego State where she established a personal-best 40-11.5.
β’ Junior Natalie Koppel is also No. 7 in program history in the long jump (17-11.75).
