IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team makes a return trip to Seattle this weekend for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, Feb. 28-29. The conference meet will be held at Dempsey Indoor for the 18th consecutive season.
 
The Anteaters have 16 individuals entered in 12 events. They begin competition Friday with the weight throw (12 p.m.), 60m hurdle prelims (4 p.m.), 60m dash prelims (5 p.m.), long jump (5:15 p.m.) and 5000m (5:40 p.m.). The 'Eaters then have a full day of action slated for Saturday, starting with the shot put at 10:30 a.m. The track events commence at 11 a.m. with the 60m hurdle final.

The 'Eaters will be squaring off against some of the nation's best as the 22-team field features seven programs ranked among the top-25: No. 4 USC, No. 7 Oregon, No. 8 Stanford, No. 9 BYU, No. 10 Washington, No. 13 Colorado and No. 19 UCLA.

STORYLINES
• The MPSF includes 22 women's teams from the Pac-12, Big West, Mountain West and West Coast Conferences.
• UC Irvine returns to Seattle after competing in the season-opening UW Preview (Jan. 18) at Dempsey Indoor.
• After traveling to the same four indoor meets over the last five seasons, UCI switched it up in 2020.
• For the first time since 2014, the 'Eaters started the campaign at the UW Preview.
• They also competed in the New Mexico Collegiate Classic for the first time since 2012.
• So far this season, 10 Anteaters have established 16 marks that rank among the program's all-time top-10.
• Zani Meaders broke her own indoor school record in the 400m with a time of 55.70 at the MLK Collegiate Invite.
• Sha'Maya Flanagan, Mychal Robinson, Tess Mathes and Meaders have set UCI's 4x400 standard twice this year.
• Most recently, the quartet established a program-best 3:48.68 at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
• UC Irvine's full indoor roster is comprised of 16 returners and 16 newcomers.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The 'Eaters were last in action at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Feb. 7-8.
• Flanagan, Robinson, Mathes and Meaders combined for a school-record time of 3:48.68 in the 4x400.
• They topped their previous standard of 3:50.18, which they ran at the Dr. MLK Jr. Collegiate Invitational.
• Robinson also took 10th in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.51 seconds.
• Flanagan won her section, and placed eighth overall, in the unseeded 400m with a season-best 57.10.
• Tess Mathes ran a lifetime-best 1:37.57 in the 600m, putting her at No. 4 in program history.
• Brianna Villanueva had her third-straight top-10 showing in the weight throw, coming in eighth at 57-02.75.
• Tayla Crenshaw cracked UCI's all-time top-10 in the shot put (51-01.5) and weight throw (41-03.25).
• Lorraine Nance (38-02.25) and Chaselyn Amos (17-00.75) added personal bests in the TJ and LJ, respectively.
 
OTHER NEWS & NOTES
• Brianna Villanueva improved her lifetime best in the weight throw by two feet at the season-opening UW Preview.
• Villanueva registered a distance of 58-01.25, which ranks second in program history.
• She was only three inches shy of the school record set by former teammate Barbara Coward last year.
• Mychal Robinson ran a personal-record 8.50 in the 60m hurdles at the Dr. MLK Jr. Collegiate Invitational.
• Robinson moved up to second all-time in school history.
• Lorraine Nance recorded the Anteaters' fourth-best indoor triple jump mark at 38-02.25 earlier this year.
• Tess Mathes will be competing in the 800m where she already ranks eighth at UCI with a PR 2:18.24.
• Hannah Chau is also third among UC Irvine's all-time leaders in the 3000m (10:13.00), and ninth in the mile (5:10.87).
