UC Irvine Ties for Fourth at OC Collegiate Classic

COTO DE CAZA, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf posted a top-five finish at the spring season-opening Orange County Collegiate Classic Tuesday at Coto de Caza South Course.
The Anteaters combined for a 54-hole score of 900 (302-298-300) to tie for fourth with UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara. Cal State Fullerton and San Francisco shared the team title as each posted an 876, while Grand Canyon took third at 895.
The 'Eaters and Titans co-hosted the two day tournament.
Senior Jonathan Kang led UCI with a top-10 individual showing. After starting the tournament near the middle of the pack, Kang moved up 30 spots over the second and third rounds to tie for sixth. He fired off five birdies for a personal tournament-best 71 (-1) in Tuesday's final round to finish at 5-over 221 (77-73-71).
Senior Ramiz Jamal tied for 21st with a 54-hole score of 224 (72-75-77). Seniors Anthony Truong and Chris Casey also tied for 33rd at 228. Truong had a team-high 10 birdies over the course of the tournament.
Sophomore Nathan Irwin rounded out UC Irvine's 5-count-4 lineup in a tie for 66th (239).
Sophomore Parker Lestz paced the Anteaters' individuals as he tied for 36th with a three-round total of 229 (74-77-78). Sophomore Trueman Park also tied for 50th at 232 (78-78-76), while sophomore Matt Gunson tied for 73rd (241).
Cal State Fullerton's Derek Castillo was individual medalist at 8-under 208 (68-68-72).
UC Irvine will be back in action next week when it heads to Lihu'e, Kaua'i, for the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 20-22.
