Personal Bests Lead No. 5 UCI Over No. 13 Concordia, 3-1

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – Several Anteaters recorded personal bests in No. 5 UC Irvine's 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 26-28, 25-23) victory over No. 13 Concordia at the Bren Events Center Thursday.

Five Anteaters posted career-highs and another had a season-best.

Outside hitter Joel Schneidmiller led UCI, tying his season-high with 22 kills and recording a career-high 13 digs. The junior hit .463 (22-3-41) and added three block assists.

JB Kam put down a career-high 17 kills, while setter Patrick Vorenkamp totaled a personal-high 60 set assists and tied his career-high with nine digs.

Libero AJ Faille had a career-high 15 digs to lead all players.

Jonny Bowles came off the bench to pitch in a career-best six kills and three block assists.

Middle blocker Scott Stadick matched his season-high with 10 total blocks (2 solo, 8 assisted). 10 blocks are the most total blocks in the country this season. He also added 10 kills.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Schneidmiller led UCI for the fourth time this season and had his third double-double of the season
> The Anteaters out-blocked the Eagles 12-6.5, while hitting .288 to just .193 for CUI
>Raymond Barsemian paced the Eagles with 14 kills, while Jordan Hoppe was right behind with 13
>Both teams are now 4-3 overall

TURNING POINTS
FIRST SET

>Concordia led 7-4 then again 13-9 as the Anteaters hit .000
>A kill by Joel Schneimiller was followed by a Concordia attack error then three consecutive blocks, all including Scott Stadick to tie the set at 15-15
>The Eagles would score the next two to re-gain control
>A block by Schneidmiller and Sean Dennis knotted the set at 19 all
>A service error by Concordia and a slam by Dennis on an overpass gave UCI the win 26-24

SECOND SET
>Concordia would make the first move on consecutive Anteater errors, 14-12
>UCI answered with a kill by Schneidmiller to tie it at 14-14
>UCI took command on a 4-1 run, which included a pair of kills by JB Kam, 22-18
>The win was capped on a block by Patrick Vorenkamp and Dennis, 25-20

THIRD SET
>The Eagles took advantage of UCI mistakes to take a 14-11 lead
>Another 3-0 run gave Concordia an 18-14 advantage
>UCI chipped away and a block by Stadick and Jonny Bowles knotted the set at 22-22 with a block and then another block gave the Anteaters a 23-22 lead
>UCI would reach 24 first, but the Eagles would be helped by three Anteater errors to go up 27-26
>Concordia would win the set 28-26 on an ace by Jordan Hoppe

FOURTH SET
>UCI started with a 5-2 lead but it quickly evaporated as the Eagles tied the set at 5-5
>Concordia would close to 14-13, but UCI answered with the next two points
 >The Anteaters would continue to lead 23-19 before the Eagles made it interesting, scoring three in a row, 23-22
>A kill by Kam stopped the momentum and UCI would side out to win 25-23 on a kill by Schneidmiller

NOTES
>Stadick extended his streak of six or more blocks in seven straight matches
>UCI improves to 6-1 all-time against Concordia.
>The Anteaters improve to 4-1 when out-blocking their opponent.
