UC Irvine Suffers Early Morning Loss

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – After a long five-set match on Friday night, UC Irvine could not rally for an early morning match against Loyola Chicago, dropping a 3-0 loss to the Ramblers (25-16, 27-25, 25-17) at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic.
UCI falls to 2-7 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Middle blocker Makayla Wolfe had a season-high 10 kills, two aces and two block assists to lead the Anteaters
>Junior Loryn Carter added seven kills followed by Abby Marjama with six kills and a team-high six digs
>Taylor Venuto lead Loyola with nine kills and six digs
FIRST SET
>Loyola started with a quick 3-0 lead until Abby Marjama got the Anteaters on the board with a kill
>The teams were tied 8-8 before the Ramblers went on a 8-2 run to open a 16-10 lead
>LUC would go on to win the set 25-16
SECOND SET
>An ace capped a 6-0 run by Loyola
>UCI would trail 22-17 then rallied on five straight points which included three Rambler attack errors and a kill and block assist by Onye Ofoegbu to tie the set at 22 all
>The teams would trade points until a kill and ace by Loyola handed the Ramblers the 27-25 victory
THIRD SET
>Three consecutive UCI attack errors gave LUC the 11-6 advantage
>UCI tried to mount a comeback, out-scoring the Ramblers 6-2 to close within 22-17
>Loyola would score the final three points, including back-to-back aces by Addie Barnes to end the match, 25-17

>Destynie Villamu made her Anteater debut, playing in two sets and adding four kills
>Serving was key as LUC fired nine aces to UCI's 2
