STORYLINES
• This is the fourth year in a row the Anteaters are competing in the UC Riverside Invitational. They had a high finish of seventh in 2016.

• UCI returns four letterwinners, while adding four newcomers.
• The 'Eaters officially welcomed distance coach Casey Kear to their cross country/track & field staff on Aug. 14.
• Kear comes to Irvine from Long Beach State where he mentored a Big West Freshman of the Year.

• Sophomore Christian Hernandez was the next 'Eater across the finish line, clocking in at 26:48.2 (72nd).

• True freshman Michael McCarthy is set to make his collegiate debut on Saturday after being sidelined for the Mark Covert Classic.
• McCarthy was a three-time CIF Los Angeles City Section finalist at Garfield High School.
COACH'S CORNER
"Our group as a whole is still adjusting to the 8K. It is new for us because a lot of our guys are used to running the 5K or 3 miles for their high school races. The 8K takes a couple races to adjust to, and we'll be adding Sam and Michael in the upcoming weeks to give us a little more depth." - UCI Distance Coach Casey Kear
