The UC Irvine women's basketball team recently returned from a memorable foreign tour to Japan (Aug. 11-22). The 'Eaters started their trip in Tokyo where they hosted a youth clinic and played their first game against Tokyo Healthcare University. Outside of basketball, they were able to visit Olympic Stadium, Harajuku and Tokyo Disneyland.

From there, the Anteaters took the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Mishima Station where they were picked up by a chartered bus and taken to Mt. Fuji 2nd Station. With a typhoon coming in, Mt. Fuji was not visible through the fog and clouds, but the team enjoyed a nice lunch and the gift shop. The second kids' clinic was scheduled for that evening in Chita, Aichi, but was canceled due to the weather, so the 'Eaters took the train straight to Nagoya for the night.
UCI left for Kyoto the next morning and arrived at Ritsumeikan University for a short practice with the women's basketball team. The Anteaters then got settled in at the dorms before returning for a welcome dinner hosted by the Panthers. The two squads spent some time getting to know each other - with a little help from Google Translate.

The following day, UC Irvine and Ritsumeikan squared off in a three quarter scrimmage. The rest of the Anteaters' stay in Kyoto was filled with sightseeing as they visited Fushimi Inari Shrine (10,000 Gates), Tenryu-ji Temple, the bamboo forest and Toei Kyoto Studio Park. On their last day in Kyoto, the 'Eaters went to Miyajima Island and Hiroshima.

UC Irvine wrapped up its foreign tour in Osaka and Nara. The team had the opportunity to go to Osaka Castle, and experience the food and shopping at Dotonbori. They also spent some time in Nara Park, Kasuga-taisha Shrine and Todaiji Temple.
