UC Irvine Closes Out Action at Big West Championships

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's track & field team wrapped up action at the Big West Championships Saturday at Pauley Track Facility.
 
Junior Jack Pickard had a podium finish in the javelin in his first career Big West meet. Pickard was one of the most consistent throwers of the afternoon, surpassing 190 feet on four of his six attempts. His top mark came in at 194-11, which was good for third place.
 
Redshirt freshman Kyle Tsu scored in the discus as he took eighth with a toss of 164-03. Tsu was coming off a top-three showing in Friday's shot put competition. Senior Omar Valenzuela (13th) and freshman Noah Holm (15th) added season bests of 160-05 and 156-06, respectively.
 
Junior Sam Ayala contributed four points with a fifth-place finish in the 1500m (3:54.63). Senior Ashton Garcia also placed 10th overall (3:57.70).
 
Senior Asa Allen was fifth in the final of the 110m hurdles, clocking in at a UCI career-best 14.18. He now ranks seventh in school history.
 
Junior Andres Woodruff notched a personal-record 52.62 to come in fifth in the 400m hurdles.
 
Senior Paul Resong scored in the 400m for the third year in a row, finishing seventh overall (48.28).
 
Woodruff, Allen, Resong and junior Brennan Doyle closed out the meet in the 4x400 where they took fourth in a season-best 3:11.82.

As a team, the 'Eaters finished eighth with 40 points.
