UC Irvine Duo Earn All-America Distinction

IRVINE, Calif. – Joel Schneidmiller and Karl Apfelbach received honorable mention All-America accolades by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Schneidmiller receives his second consecutive honorable mention selection after ranking fifth nationally in service aces with a 0.54 average. He was second in the Big West in points (4.49), third in kills (3.65) as well as sixth in hitting percentage (.323). The sophomore outside hitter led UCI in kills on 14 occasions, including a career-high 28 kills which were the most in the league this season. He was also a first team All-Big West honoree this season.

Apfelbach, who was named second team All-American last season, averaged 2.90 kills and 3.70 points per set. He was eighth in points and 10^th in kills in the conference. The senior opposite ranked sixth in the Big West in service aces with a 0.41 mark, moving in to 10^th all-time in UCI aces with 92.

UCI has had 25 men's volleyball players honored by the AVCA since 1997. At least two Anteaters have earned All-American distinction 12 of the last 14 years.
