'Eaters Tied for 10th After First Day at Chambers Bay

The UC Irvine men's golf team is tied for 10th after two rounds of the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
 
The Anteaters shot back-to-back season-best rounds of 283 to sit in a tie with Sacramento State at 566 (-2). They are one stroke back of Indiana and two behind host Seattle U, Cal Baptist and Little Rock, who are in a three-way tie for sixth. No. 41 UCLA leads the 18-team field at 31-under 537.
 
Junior Anthony Truong is tied for 20th with a two-round score of 139. He came out of the gates strong, carding a 69 as he had two birdies and made par on the remaining 16 holes. In the second round, Truong had three bogeys, but countered with four birdies for a 1-under 70.
 
Juniors Ramiz Jamal (71-72) and Chris Casey (72-71) are tied for 50th at 1-over 143.
 
Freshman Matt Gunson, who finished with a team-best eight birdies, shot a 71 and 76 to tie for 78th.
 
Freshman Nathan Irwin (150) struggled through the first 18 holes before bouncing back in the second round where he matched his season-best at 1-under 70.  

The Bruins' Hideotoshi Yoshihara is currently in first at 13-under (67-62).
 
UC Irvine returns to Chambers Bay tomorrow for the final round of the Redhawk Invitational starting at 8 a.m.
