‘Eaters Hit Century Mark in 110-72 Win Over Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – UC Irvine unloaded a 110-72 victory on Cal Poly Thursday night at the Mott Athletics Center.

UCI improved to 26-5 on the season and 14-1 in conference play. The Anteaters won their 13th road game of the season, tied for the most road wins in the country with Stony Brook. UCI also finished undefeated on the road in Big West play, the first team to do so since 2005.

The point total was the most scored by UCI since Nov. 2017 when head coach Russell Turner's squad put 112 on Whittier in a 112-65 win. It was also the first time the Anteaters put up 100 against a conference opponent since UCI scored 105 against CSUN (1/21/17).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Six players scored in double-figures as Collin Welp led the way with a career-high 19 points on 9-14 shooting
> Evan Leonard went a perfect 6-6 overall from the field, finishing with 16 points
> Max Hazzard and Robert Cartwright each had 15 points while Tommy Rutherford and Jonathan Galloway finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively
> Hazzard dished out a career-high eight assists while Darrian Traylor had four
> Elston Jones finished with a game-high eight rebounds
>  UCI dominated the boards, grabbing a season-high 57 while the Mustangs had 24
> The Anteaters shot 55.2 percent overall and out-scored Cal Poly in the paint, 62-28

First Half
> UCI got out to an 8-0 lead (17:50) before Cal Poly would make it 11-9 with 15:29 to play
> With 10:48 left, the Anteaters were up by three, 23-20
> A Darrian Traylor 3-pointer ignited a 15-0 run for the Anteaters that gave them a double-digit lead they would not relinquish
> The Mustangs' Donovan Fields ended the UCI run with two made free throws at 6:12 but the 'Eaters continued to stretch the lead, 52-29, with 2:17 remaining
>Tommy  Rutherford ended the half with two big dunks that put UCI up, 58-32
> Three Anteaters scored in double-digits including Evan Leonard (11 points), Rutherford (10) and Welp (10)

Second Half
> The Anteaters continued to roll in the second frame going up by 37 points, 74-37, after a Welp jumper at 16:12
> Cal Poly would go on a 10-4 run to make it 76-46 (13:57) until Welp scored seven-straight points followed by layups from Galloway, Cartwright and Solomon Ruddell stretched the UCI lead to 42, 91-49, with 10 minutes to play
> A Hazzard layup put UCI in triple-digits, 101-53, with 7:03 to go
> UCI cruised to the 110-72 victory

NOTES
> 58 first half points is most scored in a half by the Anteaters this season
> This marks the seventh time under coach Turner the 'Eaters have hit the century mark
> 38 points is the largest margin of victory for UCI this season
> Jonathan Galloway played in his 140th game, becoming UCI's all-time leader in games played. He surpasses video coordinator Alex Young
> UCI's 14-1 Big West record is the second-best conference record in program history. The 2000-01 team went 15-1
