Denholm Deals Series-Clinching Shutout at Hawai'i

HONOLULU, Hawai'i --- No. 19 UC Irvine came back to win the series Sunday with a shutout performance from Trenton Denholm to take down Hawai'i, 4-0, in Les Murakami Stadium.

Taking the Lead
The Anteaters (18-5, 2-1) started the scoring once again Sunday with a pair of runs in the second inning. John Jensen's screaming liner off the left fielder's glove put runners on second and third. Christian Koss drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly followed by a clutch two-out single from Griffin Mazur to score Jensen and make it 2-0 in the second.

Brooks Still Bashing
For a second game in a row Brendan Brooks showed off his power launched a solo home run out to left field to stretch the lead to 3-0 in the fourth

Trenton Time
Anteater starter Trenton Denholm sailed through his afternoon allowing just five baserunners with a two-out walk in the second and leadoff single in the fourth as the only commotion early. Another fifth-inning single was erased on a double play, and Hawai'i's (11-16, 1-2) biggest threat in the sixth inning with two runners on, but a long fly ball from Alex Baeza was run down on the track to end the threat.

Final Score: No. 19 UC Irvine 4, Hawai'i 0
Mike Peabody had three hits along with Jake Palmer with Peabody scoring a run and Palmer driving one in. Brooks stays second on the squad with six home runs now. Brennen Hancock had a pair of hits for the Rainbow Warriors.

Pitchers of Record
Denholm went eight shutout innings for the second time this year allowing three hits and two walks along with seven strikeouts to improve to 5-0. Taylor Rashi closed out the ninth in a non-save situation. Li'i Pontes was dealt the loss to fall to 1-2 unable to get through the third inning.
