No. 22 'Eaters Hold Down Washington State, 4-1

IRVINE, Calif. --- No. 22 UC Irvine continued its winning ways Friday night in Anteater Ballpark topping Washington State, 4-1.

Peabody Keeps Hitting
The Anteaters (13-4) started the scoring in the bottom of the third inning of a scoreless contest. The first two 'Eaters walked as Brandon Lewis stepped up and scalded a ball to left field. Collin Montez got to it getting completely horizontal on the dive, but unable to hang on as he hit the ground allowing the bases to be loaded for Mike Peabody. Peabody took advantage hooking a ball into the corner to score all three runs putting UCI on top, 3-0, after three.

Pallante's New Record
Andre Pallante was perfect through four innings. With one out in the fifth, Kyle Manzardo's at-bat took on multiple meanings. Manzardo would single into the gap to break up the perfect game, but tried to stretch it to a double. Mikey Filia came up firing hitting his cutoff who finished with a strike at second to gun down Manzardo. The out made Pallante the new Anteater record holder in consecutive scoreless innings pitched at 23.1 surpassing Andrew Morales' mark of 23 set in 2014. Pallante navigated through his shaky fifth inning scoreless and added a pair of shutout innings before departing after the seventh to stretch his streak to 25.2 innings pitched.

Ninth-Inning Drama
Jordan Bocko began his second inning of work with an out, but the Cougars (6-14) laced a pair of singles and then a Manzardo double to plate a run and make it 4-1 and bring the tying run to the plate. Taylor Rashi was called upon, and scored his sixth save of the season after a popout and grounder.

Final Score: No. 22 UC Irvine 4, Washington State 1
Peabody provided most of the offense with two hits to put him at a .459 average on the year with his three RBIs on the night. Andre Antone shot a pinch-hit single up the middle to score the other Anteater run. Jake Palmer scored and reached three more times. Manzardo was the only Cougar with multiple hits on the night

Pitchers of Record
Pallante improved to 4-1 on the season, and secured his 20th career win becoming the 15th Anteater to reach the mark. Bocko tied Mitch Merten for 17th in the Anteater records appearing in his 66th career game. Brandon White lasted just 2.1 innings as he dropped his season record to 2-2
