No. 3 UC Irvine Travels To UC San Diego Friday

After playing 13 matches in 30 days, including three in 36 hours last weekend, No. 3 UCI slows down the pace this week and only plays once at UC San Diego on Friday (Feb.8). The match starts at 7:00 p.m. from the RIMAC Arena.
 
VERSUS THE TRITONS
UCI has won 16 straight versus UCSD, including a 3-0 victory in the first Big West Tournament match.
 
The Tritons are 5-6 overall, winning three of its last four matches. UCSD, who is ending a six-match home stand, beat Concordia (3-2) and UC Santa Cruz (3-0) last weekend.
 
RENUINON TIME
Saturday (Feb. 9) is UCI Homecoming and men's volleyball will host its annual Alumni match at 11:00 a.m. in Crawford Court.
 
BIG WEST TIME
Friday marks the first Big West match the year. UCI will play a 10-match league schedule that concludes at the Big West Championships hosted by Hawaii Apr. 18-20.
 
The Big West holds the first three spots in the AVCA rankings (Long Beach State, Hawaii, UCI) with UC Santa Barbara checking in at No. 6 and CSUN at 12th.
 
The Big West has a combined record of 46-16 overall, including a winning record against every other conference.
 
ABOUT THE ANTEATERS
UCI is riding a five-match winning streak and is 11-2 overall.
 
Five consecutive wins ties the longest streak of the season.
 
The Anteaters swept Charleston and Grand Canyon last Friday then returned home to beat No. 15 USC 3-2 on Saturday.
 
Against the Trojans, Karl Apfelbach led the Anteaters with a season-high 19 kills. Aaron Koubi and Scott Stadick also posted season-highs in kills with 14 and 11, respectively.
 
Aaron Koubi did not commit a hitting error over the two matches (10-0-23) in Phoenix.
 
OFFENSIVE ATTACK
UCI hit .472 (42-8-72) versus Charleston which is the second best hitting percentage of the season. The Anteaters hit .359 versus Grand Canyon then .308 against the Trojans. UCI has hit over .300 eight times this year.
 
Senior setter Dante Chakravorti leads the offense with a 10.34 assist average, which ranks fifth nationally.
 
AT THE NET
UC Irvine leads the Big West in blocking with a 2.49 average.

Middle blocker Scott Stadick rejected a season-high 10 total blocks (3 solos) versus Grand Canyon, the most in a three set match this season.
 
For the season, Stadick is averaging a conference-leading1.42 blocks to go with 1.74 kills. Over 11 sets last week, he averaged 1.45 blocks and 2.55 kills. The 7-0 footer is fourth nationally in blocks.
 
Stadick leads the squad with a .429 hitting percentage which ranks fourth among league players.
 
Sophomore Austin Wilmot is averaging 0.86 blocks and 1.66 kills. He is seventh in the Big West with a .405 hitting percentage.
 
Wilmot and Karl Apfelbach are tied for fifth in the Big West in blocking.
 
SCHNEIDMILLER LEADS
Sophomore Joel Schneidmiller continues to lead the Anteaters with a 3.78 kills and 4.66 points average.
 
The sophomore ranks third in points, fourth in kills, second in aces (0.56) and 10th in digs (1.68) in the Big West statistics.
 
He has recorded double-figure kills in all but one match this season. He recorded his second double-double of the year with 13 kills and a career-high 11 digs versus USC.
 
He had a season-high five block assists in the win over Grand Canyon.
 
APFELBACH AND KOUBI
Senior Karl Apfelbach is second on the team with a 2.98 kill average, which ranks 10th in the Big West. The opposite also ranks 10th in the league in point average with a 3.73 mark. He is second on the team with 15 aces.
 
Graduate student Aaron Koubi ranks ninth in the Big West with a 1.80 dig average. He is third on the team with a 2.48 kill average.
