IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team makes the first of its two trips to Lihue, Kauai, this week as it is set to compete in the 43rd annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 21-23. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72 Wailua Golf Course that measures 6,991 yards. One round is scheduled for each day with an 8 a.m. (HT)/10 a.m. (PT) shotgun start.
The Anteaters are part of an elite 20-team field that features seven squads ranked among Golfweek's top-50. Highlighting the group are No. 2 Duke, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 20 Texas A&M and No. 23 BYU. Also in the mix are No. 34 North Carolina, No. 36 UNLV, No. 45 Arizona, CSUN, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Saint Mary's, UC Santa Barbara, UTEP, Virginia, Washington State and host Hawai'i.
STORYLINES
• UCI's 5-count-4 lineup includes Jonathan Kang, Ramiz Jamal, Anthony Truong, Nathan Irwin and Chris Casey.
• The 'Eaters are looking to improve on a 14th-place finish at the 2018 John A. Burns Intercollegiate.

• Junior Jonathan Kang is tops on the team with a 72.75 scoring average.
• He has two top-15 showings this year, including a career-best second-place finish at the Anteater Invitational last week.
• The Santa Clarita native matched his career best with a 69 through the final 18 holes to finish at 4-under 212.
• Over his last two tournaments, Kang has had five rounds below par with three of those being sub-70 scores.
• At the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite, he carded back-to-back rounds of 69 and finished with a career-best 5-under 208.
PERFECT SHOT
• Junior Ramiz Jamal recorded his first collegiate hole-in-one in the second round of the Anteater Invitational on Feb. 11.
• Jamal's ace came on the par-3, 202-yard 12th hole at Big Canyon Country Club.
• It marked the second year in a row an 'Eater recorded a hole-in-one.
• Recent graduate David Kim accomplished the feat at the 2018 John A. Burns Intercollegiate.
LAST TIME OUT
• UC Irvine hosted the Anteater Invitational at Big Canyon Country Club to kick off its spring season last week.
• Kang led the way, claiming runner-up honors at 4-under 212 (70-73-69).
• Irwin and Jamal tied for 39th (232), while Truong (234) and Parker Lestz (235) weren't far behind.
BIG WEST FLASHBACK
• The 'Eaters pulled off an epic upset last year by claiming the Big West title as the seventh seed.
