Balanced Scoring Lifts UCI Over Louisiana, 92-67

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Six players scored in double-figures as UC Irvine earned a dominating 92-67 win over Louisiana Lafayette on the final day of the MGM Resorts Main Event, Tuesday afternoon.

Tommy Rutherford finished with a game-high 20 points which also tied a career-best on 9-10 shooting from the field. Collin Welp had 15 points, tying a career-best three three-pointers made while Eyassu Worku tallied 13 points. John Edgar Jr. and Brad Greene each finished with 12 points while Austin Johnson had 10.

UCI improves to 4-4 on the season while LA falls to 4-3 overall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> The Anteaters shot a season-best 61.4 percent (35-57) from the field overall and hit eight three's finishing 8-19 (.421) from long range
> Edgar Jr. led the team with nine rebounds while Johnson had seven and a block
> UCI dominated the boards, 43-23, and held a 48-14 advantage in points in the paint
> The Anteaters also dished out a season-best 23 assists as Edgar Jr., Worku and Isaiah Lee had five apiece
> LA's P.J. Hardy a team-best 18 points

First Half
> UCI came out hot from the tip, scoring 10-straight, 10-0, to force an LA timeout at 18:06
> A Rutherford layup started a 9-0 run for the Anteaters that put them up by 14, 28-14, with 10:26 to play. Welp hit back-to-back three-pointers in that stretch
> The Ragin' Cajuns answered with a 10-run to bring the game within four, 28-24, at 6:58
> Rutherford would score six points in an 8-0 run to give UCI a double-digit lead, 36-24 (5:07)
> LA used a 9-2 run down the stretch to make it a seven-point game, 40-33, at the half

Second Half
> The Ragin' Cajuns brought the game within three, 48-45, with 15:38 remaining
> UCI used an 8-2 run to take a nine-point, 56-47, lead with 12:51 to play
> The Anteaters made three-straight layups to go up in double-figures, 62-50 (10:05)
> Back-to-back layups from Greene followed by a made three from Lee broke open the Anteater lead, 69-53, with 8:15 to play
> UCI locked down on defense, not allowing a single Ragin' Cajun field goal in the last 3:22 while continuing to pour on the points for a final score of 92-67
