No. 14 UCI Falls Short to No. 4 UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -  Casey Lynton and Jason Evezard each had a hat trick as No. 14 UC Irvine dropped a 15-10 decision to No. 4 UC Santa Barbara in Golden Coast Conference play Saturday at Campus Pool.
 
UCI moves to 6-11 overall and 0-3 in conference action while UCSB improved to 18-5 on the season and 2-1 in GCC action.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Lynton and Evezard each scored three goals
> Bryant Joudrie scored twice
> Jon Polos and Zlatan Nikocevic tallied one goal apiece
> Chandler Mankins played a complete game in goal tallying seven saves
> UCSB's Ivan Gvozdanovic had a game-high four goals
> Tiago Bonchristiano, Danny Roland and Justyn Barrios each split time in goal as Bonchristiano was credited with the win and five saves

Quarter One

> Lynton scored at 2:39 while the Gauchos tallied three goals to take a 3-1 lead
 
Quarter Two
> UCSB would score at 7:10 to make it 4-1 before Lynton added a goal on a powerplay at 6:35
> Evezard fired in a goal at 5:34 before Lynton and Joudrie ended the half with back-to-back goals to cut the Gaucho lead, 7-5, at the half
 
Quarter Three
> UCSB would open the second half with two quick goals, making it 9-5 (5:47)
> Evezard scored on a powerplay at 5:23 but UCSB answered with two more points
> Evezard converted a five-meter penalty shot at 4:02 while Nikocevic scored on a pass from Lynton at 2:16
> The 'Eaters trailed 12-7 after the third quarter
 
Quarter Four
> UCSB continued its offensive attack added three more goals in the final eight minutes to seal the 15-10 win
> Polos and Joudrie would both add a goal in the final frame
