No. 14 Anteaters Cruise to 16-5 Victory Over Concordia Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 14 UC Irvine men's water polo team earned a decisive 16-5 victory over local rival Concordia Irvine, Wednesday at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

UCI improved to 7-13 on the season while CUI dropped to 9-16 overall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Jason Evezard finished with a game-high four goals
> Casey Lynton notched three goals, two assists and grabbed four steals
> Bryant Joudrie, Jon Polos and Zlatan Nikocevic each had two goals
> Foster Hoose, Ian Fleenor and Skylar Lee each scored once
> Harrison Land played a complete game in goal and finished with 12 saves
> UCI outshot CUI 38-26 and went 2-7 on powerplays while the Eagles were 3-10 in extramn situations

TURNING POINTS
Quarter One

> UCI jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Lynton scored on a five-meter penalty (6:33) followed by a goal from Polos at 4:13
> The Eagles would score at 3:28 but the 'Eaters answered with a goal from Hoose (3:00)
> Lynton tallied two more goals in the frame while Fleenor and Polos capped the quarter scoring at :42 and :06 seconds, respectively
> UCI went into the second quarter with a 7-1 lead

> CUI scored three-straight goals to open the quarter making it a 7-4 game (1:55)
> Evezard fired in a goal with 1:30 remaining as UCI took an 8-4 lead into the half

> The Anteaters defense stepped up in the third quarter and shut out the Eagles
> UCI would score five goals to break open the lead, 13-4
> Nikocevic scored twice while Joudrie had back-to-back goals within the final 30 seconds

> The Eagles added one more goal and UCI's Lee capped the scoring with a goal in the final 38 seconds
