IRVINE, Calif. --- The No. 12 UCI men's water polo team dropped a Golden Coast Conference match to No. 19 San Jose State, 8-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Anteater Aquatics Center.
UCI falls to 6-9 on the season and 0-2 in conference action while SJSU improves to 4-12 overall and 1-1 in the GCC.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- John Polos led the 'Eaters with two goals, while Jason Evezard added one of his own
- Collin Winters spent all four quarterĀ in goal, logging 12 saves
- The Anteaters led the Spartans 31-25 in shots, but shot just .097 compared to .320 for SJSU.
- UCI went just 1-13 (.077) on powerplays in the contest.

Quarter One:
- UCI and SJSU played a hotly contested first quarter, taking a 2-2 tie into quarter two
- The Spartans would strike first, but Jon Polos quickly countered, taking the deflected shot of teammate Jason Evezard and putting it in the back of the net
- With 1:28 remaining in the quarter, Evezard converted on a penalty shot from 5m deep to give UCI a 2-1 lead
- San Jose State would add a goal before the end of the frame to bring it back to 2-2

Quarter Two:
- The Spartans pushed their lead to 4-2 with goals at 4:05 and 1:10
- Both of the goals scored by SJSU came on powerplays after UCI exclusions
- UCI was unable to score despite taking nine total shots in the quarter

Quarter Three:
- San Jose State scored the first two goals of the half, extending their lead to 6-2
- Polos cut the Spartans lead to 6-3 with his second goal of the afternoon at 4:26
- The Spartans went on to add another goal with 1:49 left in the quarter to push their lead to 7-3

- SJSU added one final goal with 0:40 left in the match to get the win, 8-3
