'Eaters Set Personal Bests at Highlander Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's cross country team combined for five personal records at the Highlander Invitational 8K Saturday at the UCR Ag/Ops Course.
 
Sophomore Sebastian Bautista continued to lead the Anteater pack, placing 57th out of 234 overall competitors. He covered the 8000-meter course in a lifetime-best 25:39.43. Bautista has been UCI's No. 1 runner at every meet this season.
 
Sophomore Christian Hernandez also came in 81st at 26:09.18.
 
Senior Jhamani Long saw an eight-second improvement on his PR from the same meet a year ago, clocking in at 26:41.85.
 
Freshman Michael McCarthy established a personal-record 27:07.14, shaving 47 seconds off his previous best in his third career 8K race.
 
Freshman Jason Messner (28:33.66) and sophomore Omar Adel (28:52.45) added personal bests to round out UCI's lineup.
 
UC Irvine finished 16th as a team. The 'Eaters will be back on the same course at UC Riverside for the Big West Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2.
