Men's Volleyball Hosts Fall Exhibition With Hawaii

IRVINE, Calif. -- UC Irvine will host a highly-anticipated exhibition match with Hawaii October 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Events Center.
In a match that highlights two of the premier teams in the country, fans can get a preview of the 2020 season.
Both teams were ranked together in the nation's top 3 for eight weeks last season.
"Hawaii, last year's national runner-up, obliterated the NCAA statistical record for team hitting efficiency," UCI head coach David Kniffin said. "They return key players and, as always, add international talent. I suspect they will enter the 2020 campaign as favorites.
Here at UC Irvine, we will roll out a dynamic team that will rally behind the proven leadership of Joel Schneidmiller and Scott Stadick. Consistent with the narrative of UC Irvine men's volleyball, I expect other players to emerge as experience builds. I foresee us starting steady and closing hard. This should be a fun, fall match-up."
The match will also showcase the Big West Championships which UCI will host April 23-25 at the Bren Events Center. This highly competitive event has produced the national champion the last two seasons. In the first two seasons of the Big West, five of the six league teams ranked in the top 12 of the final American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
"We hosted Hawaii 17 years ago in a first-ever No. 1 vs No. 2 match up in The Bren Events Center. Since that time, both programs have been iconic, annual contenders for the NCAA Championship. I am grateful to our administration for the opportunity to host this preview to The Big West Tournament."
