'Eaters in Seventh After Day One of Bill Cullum Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team put together a strong second round to move into the top-10 at the Bill Cullum Invitational Monday at Wood Ranch Golf Club.
 
The Anteaters recorded a 36-hole total of 581 (296-285). They were in 11th place after the first round, but proceeded to register a 3-under 285 to jump to seventh.
 
Seniors Jonathan Kang and Ramiz Jamal are tied for 31st after finishing the first two rounds at even-par 144. They carded identical scores of 74 (+2) and 70 (-2), climbing 22 spots in the standings after the second round. Kang had his first eagle of the season on the par-5, 526-yard second hole.
 
Sophomore Parker Lestz is tied for 46th at 146 (73-73). He had a team-high 10 birdies on the day with six coming in the first round. Classmate Matt Gunson is tied for 49th with a 36-hole score of 147 (75-72). His three-stroke improvement helped him move up 13 spots on the leaderboard.
 
Senior Anthony Truong is tied for 81st (153), and senior Chris Casey, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 89th (155).
 
San Diego State holds a comfortable 17-stroke lead on the field at 30-under 546. The Aztecs' Puwit Anupansuebsai is also in first (129), five strokes ahead of Grand Canyon's Trevor Lampson (134).
 
UC Irvine returns to the links tomorrow for the final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational.
