Box Score PALO ALTO, Calif. – No. 9 Stanford handed No. 2 UC Irvine its first loss of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Anteaters (27-25, 17-25, 25-22, 27-25) at Maples Pavilion Thursday.

UCI goes to 5-1 overall, while Stanford remains undefeated 5-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Outside hitter Joel Schneidmiller led UCI with 18 kills
>Outside hitter Aaron Koubi followed with 13 kills and eight digs, hitting .455 (13-3-22)
> Middle blocker Scott Stack led all players with nine total blocks (1 solo, 8 assists)
>Stanford was led by Jordan Ewert with a match-high 20 kills
>Jaelen Jasper added 17 kills, two aces, six digs and five block assists in the win

>Stanford scored three in a row, two from UCI attack errors to open an 8-3 lead
>The Cardinal would hold a 13-10 lead before the Anteaters came alive with a 4-1 run to tie the score at 14-14
>A kill by Joel Schneidmiller, a Cardinal attack error and a block by Schneidmiller and Scott Stadick gave UCI the 17-15 lead
>A kill by Karl Apfelbach would give UCI its largest lead at 19-16, but Stanford would record three straight kills to tie it at 19-19

>UCI used a 6-3 run to open some separation 14-11
>The lead was short lived as Stanford would catch UCI at 15-15
>The Anteaters regained control with a 5-1 run of their own, including a kill and block assist by Apfelbach 20-16
>Stanford would call timeout and UCI would get a block from Schneidmiller and Stadick before the Cardinal peeled off five straight to complete the comeback 21-21
>UCI would win the next point, but Stanford would score the final four to take the set 25-22
>Stanford would score nine of the final 10 points

SET 4
>Stanford would take control of the set 12-9 with a 5-1 run
>UCI would try to rally with three in a row, including back-to-back blocks by Stadick, 15-13
>The Anteaters would chip away and a kill by Nsakanda would tie the set at 21-21
