Women's Basketball Unveils 2018-19 Schedule

Sync Schedule

IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's basketball team will be tested early and often as third-year head coach Tamara Inoue has announced a tough 2018-19 schedule which features four non-conference opponents that are coming off a postseason appearance, including NCAA Elite Eight participant Oregon.

"I am really excited about our schedule this season," Inoue said. "It is competitive and will prepare us for conference. Adding Oregon, a potential Final Four team, is going to be a great challenge for our program and a great chance to compete with the best of the best."

UCI begins the campaign with back-to-back home games, and will ultimately play six of its 13 preseason contests at the Bren Events Center.

The 'Eaters officially open the season on Wednesday, Nov. 7, when they host NAIA affiliate Life Pacific College at 7 p.m. They will then have five days to prepare for their first NCAA Division I opponent, UNLV (Nov. 13), which made it to the WNIT last year.

UC Irvine follows with a short trip to Malibu for its first road test at Pepperdine (Nov. 16). After entertaining Southern Utah on Tuesday, Nov. 20, the Anteaters travel to Phoenix, Ariz., for the GCU Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 23-24. They will play two neutral-site games, taking on LIU Brooklyn and Indiana State.

UCI then wraps up the first month of the season by hosting Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday, Nov. 29. The Roadrunners received a postseason bid to the 2018 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI).

The 'Eaters will be on the road for most of December, starting with a single game in Northern California as they square off against San Jose State on Dec. 2. UC Irvine returns home for a clash with San Diego State on Friday, Dec. 7, before heading to the Pacific Northwest for contests at Portland (Dec. 16), Portland State (Dec. 18) and Oregon (Dec. 21). The trip to Eugene highlights UCI's preseason as the Ducks return eight letterwinners from last year's team that went 33-5, advanced to their second-straight NCAA Elite Eight, and claimed both the Pac-12 Tournament and regular season titles.

The Anteaters conclude their non-conference schedule with another 2018 NCAA Tournament team when they welcome Seattle to the Bren Events Center on Saturday, Dec. 29.

The 'Eaters begin Big West play with a trip to Cal Poly on Jan. 5. Their home conference opener is then slated for Saturday, Jan. 12, when they take on defending Big West Tournament champion CSUN.

UCI will be hosting the first two rounds of the 2019 Big West Tournament at the Bren Events Center, while the semifinals and championship game return to the Honda Center in Anaheim.

UC Irvine had one of the best campaigns in program history last year, finishing with an 18-14 overall record, and receiving a bid to the WBI, which marked the Anteaters' first postseason appearance since 1995. Their 18 wins ranked fourth on the school's single-season charts.
