IRVINE, Calif. ---
UC Irvine's 2018 men's soccer schedule has a newer look starting with a restructured conference schedule.

The decision came down in the offseason to go away from two divisions within the Big West which now stands as one eight-team division. Along with the divisional change, the conference schedule will reduce to seven games with the 'Eaters matching up with each conference opponent once and an unbalanced amount of home and road contests. UC Irvine's home Big West schedule begins October 6 with a visit from Sacramento State, and the final two home games of the season come back-to-back with UC Santa Barbara visiting Saturday, October 13, and then local rival Cal State Fullerton completing the home slate on October 17.

UC Irvine will begin conference play October 3 with a trip to UC Riverside, followed a week later heading to UC Davis, and the Big West season ends on the road at Cal Poy, October 21, and at CSUN, October 27.

The Big West Tournament remains unchanged with a three-round format with each round hosted by the higher seed.

The added effect to the new Big West format is an elongated non-conference schedule from nine games over the past few seasons to 11 non-conference games with two exhibitions added. The 'Eaters begin at home with an exhibition matchups against Bakersfield August 16 coming in the mid-afternoon as the first game in a doubleheader coinciding with the women's soccer season opener. UCI then trips to UCLA on Sunday, August 19, for a final exhibition before the season gets going.

UCI will start things off with a pair of exhibition matches beginning Thursday, August 16 hosting Bakersfield as part of a doubleheader with women's soccer who begins its season later that night. The last tuneup before the games count will be a trip to UCLA on Sunday, August 19, for a night matchup.

The Anteaters begin the regular season on the road with a visit to San Diego, August 24, and a cross-country trip to UCF in Orlando for a Monday night matchup.

The home schedule gets going Friday, August 31 with the first of three in a row in Anteater Stadium beginning with Utah Valley. The Wolverines were a fledgling program when the programs first matched up in UVU's first-ever season in 2014, but Utah Valley reached the NCAA Tournament the next season and followed that up with a 15-4-1 season in 2016 in which they were ranked.

The three-game set moves along with James Madison visiting on September 2 coming off their first winning season since the Dukes' NCAA Tournament season of 2014. The yearly matchup with LMU finishes the stretch of games with the Lions sporting a winning program in four of the last five seasons.

The 'Eaters take a quick trip to San Diego State before another two-game homestand starting September 14 with late add to the schedule, Pomona-Pitzer, and then the Ivy League comes knocking for a 1:00 p.m. Sunday matchup September 16 where the Brown Bears show up having just one losing season since their 2012 campaign where they went deep in the NCAA Tournament.

The non-conference ledger closes out with three contests upstate with a midweek matchup at San Francisco, a team who reached the NCAA Second Round last season with the 'Eaters looking to avenge a 2017 loss, followed by a stop at Pacific, whose coming off its second straight trip to the NCAA Second Round, and non-conference play concludes at Saint Mary's for the Anteaters.

"We are excited to play another competitive schedule that allows us to test ourselves," praised second-year head coach Yossi Raz. "The soccer programs we have on our schedule are very diverse in how they play, and are from quality places across the country between the American Athletic Conference, the Ivy League, CAA, and beyond. We will have many opportunities to play under the lights in Anteater Stadium for the campus and immediate community to come in support and see our progress."
