IRVINE, Calif. - A short-handed UC Irvine men's track & field team finished fourth at the Big West Challenge Friday evening at Anteater Stadium.

Junior
Paul Resong had one of the top performances of the evening for the 'Eaters as he established a personal-record 48.27 in the 400m (4th).

Sophomore
Andres Woodruff also took third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.33 seconds, while classmate
CJ Hicks was fourth at 55.65.

Senior
Ashton Garcia took fourth in the 1500m (3:55.52), and sophomore
Sam Ayala added points to the team total with a sixth-place showing (3:56.86).

In the 3000m, senior
Izzak Mireles was UCI's top finisher at 8:38.57 (4th). Sophomore
Hector Garcia was eighth (8:44.07), and Ayala placed 10th overall (8:45.54).

Hector Garcia also led the Anteaters in the 800m with a season-best 1:54.90 (5th). Freshman
Xavier Weaver placed ninth in his debut (1:56.84), and junior
Jhamani Long notched a season-best 1:57.94.

Rounding out the distance events, junior
Jon Rodriguez finished fourth in the 3000m steeplechase (9:47.35).

Sophomore
Alan Tantiwassadakran came in sixth in the 110m hurdles (15.53). Sophomore
Evan Singletary (11.17) and senior
Michael Hamill (11.23) were also seventh and eighth in the 100m, respectively. Hamill chipped in a seventh-place performance in the 200m where he ran a season-best 22.64.

Freshman
Seth Enochs and junior
Omar Valenzuela were UC Irvine's only two field athletes in action on Friday. Valenzuela placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 166-08, while Enochs was fifth in the long jump (22-01.75).

The 'Eaters were without some of their top athletes, including
Asa Allen (110H),
Jon Dickinson (Shot Put, Hammer) and
Brandon Lucas (100m, 200m), who ran the 400m but did not finish.

Cal State Fullerton won the team title with 203.5 points.

UC Irvine will be back in action next weekend when it makes its way to La Jolla for the UCSD Triton Invitational, April 13-14.
