BOISE, Idaho – The UC Irvine men's tennis team came from behind to defeat a tough Boise State team in a midweek match, Wednesday at Appleton Tennis Center.
With the win, UCI improves to 13-9 on the season. The Broncos fall to 8-12 overall.
Despite dropping the doubles point, the Anteaters came back to win at Nos. 2, 4, 5, and 6 in singles to clinch the match.
Daniel Gealer and
Luis Lopez highlighted doubles play with a win at No. 3 over BSU's Max Blancaneux/Harvey Shackleton, 6-4.
The Broncos jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Jack Heslin defeated
Luis Lopez, 7-5, 6-4, at the top spot but UCI won four-straight singles matchups to get the victory.
Gealer continued his stellar day with a three-set victory at No. 4 singles, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-1, over BSU's Pedro Platzeck. The triumph clinched the match for the 'Eaters.
Vatsal Bajpai took a three-set victory at No. 6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, before
Sasha Krasnov battled it out on court two, winning in three sets, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-0.
Mason Hansen also pulled out a three-set triumph by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 5.
Luca Marquard was in his third set against Mattia Bedolo, 6-7 (0-7), 7-6 (7-3), 2-3, when the match was called.
Up next, UCI faces UC Santa Barbara in a Big West showdown Sunday, April 8 at 12 p.m.
