CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team moved into a tie for first at the Big West Championships after firing a 3-under 285 in Monday's second round at Industry Hills Golf Club.

The 'Eaters had the second-lowest score of the day on the par-72, 6,989-yard "Ike" Eisenhower Course. They erased host Cal State Fullerton's two-stroke opening-round lead as the Anteaters and Titans will enter the final 18 holes tied for first at 569 (-7). Top-seeded UC Davis made a significant leap to third and is four strokes back at 573. UC Santa Barbara (574) and Long Beach State (576) are also fourth and fifth, respectively.

Senior
David Kim paced UC Irvine on the second day of action with a 3-under 69. He got out to a quick start with two birdies through the first three holes, and found himself at 4-under on the back nine. Kim held steady until a double bogey on the 15th, but that ended up being the only blemish on his scorecard as he recovered with two pars and his fifth birdie of the afternoon. Kim jumped 13 spots on the leaderboard where he is currently tied for sixth at 2-under 142 (73-69).

Sophomore
Jonathan Kang carded a 71 (-1) to remain among the top-three in the individual standings. At the turn, Kang reeled off back-to-back birdies, but slipped to even par after bogeys on the 12th, 16th and 17th holes. He then dug deep for a birdie on the 18th for his second-straight under-par round. Kang is tied for third and is only one stroke behind the leader with a 4-under 140 (69-71).

Ryan O'Connor shot a 1-over 73, dropping four spots into a tie for 11th with a 36-hole score of 144. O'Connor was strong once again on the back nine where he had three of his five birdies.

Ramiz Jamal is tied for 22nd with a two-round total of 146 (71-75), while senior
Jonathan Young is tied for 26th at 148. Young saw a four-stroke improvement with an even-par 72 on Monday.

Cal State Fullerton's Martin Manalo and UC Santa Barbara's Brandon Bauman sit at the top of the individual standings with a 36-hole score of 139 (-5). Kang, who is tied for third with Ryan Han of UC Davis, is only one stroke back, while Kim is three behind the leaders.

UC Irvine returns to Industry Hills Golf Club tomorrow for the third and final round of the Big West Championships. The 'Eaters will be vying for their eighth conference title when they tee off at 8:50 a.m.
