UC Irvine Produces Strong Performances on Final Day of Steve Scott

IRVINE, Calif. - In their final tune-up before the Big West Championships, the UC Irvine men's track & field team set four personal records and five season bests at their own Steve Scott Invitational Saturday at Anteater Stadium.
 
Junior Asa Allen was the top collegiate finisher, and overall runner-up, in the 110m hurdles where he ran a 14.56 into a slight headwind. Sophomore Alan Tantiwassadakran also posted a career-best 15.21 (11th).
                               
Allen added a fifth-place showing in the 200m with a personal-record 21.80. Junior Brandon Lucas wasn't far behind in seventh (21.95), and senior Michael Hamill notched a season-best 22.49 (14th).
 
For the second-straight meet, sophomore Andres Woodruff improved his PR in the 400m hurdles. He placed sixth overall at 53.85.
 
Junior Paul Resong came in fifth in the 400m (48.75).
 
Woodruff, Lucas, Allen and Hamill combined to run a season-best 41.39 for a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
 
Sophomore Hector Garcia (9th) and junior Ashton Garcia (10th) both had top-10 performances in a 1500m field of 98 runners. Hector clocked in at 3:53.26, and Ashton was right on his heels at 3:53.75. Sophomore Sam Ayala was also 19th (3:59.70), while junior Jon Rodriguez registered a lifetime-best 3:59.79.
 
Freshman Kit Carter led a trio of Anteaters in the 800m as he placed 15th out of 63. Junior Jhamani Long ran a season-best 1:56.28 to take 18th, and freshman Xavier Weaver was 27th (1:57.48).
 
The 'Eaters had two teams entered in the 4x400 relay with Woodruff, Resong, freshman Kyle Sandoval and Long placing third at 3:16.82. Carter, Ashton Garcia, Hector Garcia and Weaver were also eighth (3:26.97), not long after running the 1500m.
 
In the throws, senior Jon Dickinson registered a season-best 49-00.25 in the shot put, while junior Omar Valenzuela took sixth in the discus (167-02).

UCI recognized its three seniors - Jon Dickinson, Michael Hamill and Izzak Mireles - in the final home meet of their collegiate careers.
 
UC Irvine will now prepare for the main events of the Big West Championships, which are set to run May 11-12 in Northridge.
