Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's tennis team earned its second-straight win after sweeping Boston University, 7-0, Friday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

With the win, UCI improves to 5-7 on the season.

"We are getting better every match," said head coach Mike Saunders. "We played smarter, problem solved and competed with belief."

UCI came out firing, winning the doubles point after triumphs at Nos. 1 and 3. The 'Eaters led in No. 2 doubles, 5-2, but the match went unfinished after UCI clinched the point. The duo of Mason Hansen and Luca Marquard won at the top spot, 6-1, while Daniel Gealer and Luis Lopez defeated BU's Owen Lu and Ethan Kolsky on court three, 6-1.

"Luca and Mason played flawless doubles," added Saunders. "When they are on they can compete with any team."

Lopez continued his stellar play, winning at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Vatsal Bajpai followed with a quick win on court five, 6-3, 6-4 before Luca Marquard earned a 6-3, 6-4 decision over David Bogatin at No. 3.

On court two, Sasha Krasnov trailed early but came back to win, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Gealer also dropped the first set at the No. 4 spot but rallied to defeat the Terriers' Pedro Gutierrez, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

"I was especially proud of Danny and Sasha. Both struggled in the beginning of their singles matches, but stayed composed, made some adjustments, and raised their level," commented Saunders.

On court six, Mason Hansen pulled off a 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 win over Kolsky.

UCI returns to the court for a doubleheader Tuesday, March 13. The Anteaters play Idaho (9 a.m.) followed by a match against Lehigh (2 p.m.) at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
