SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team got out to a good start but could not hold on, ultimately dropping a 4-1 decision to Sacramento State Friday morning at Sacramento State Courts.

The Anteaters fall to 8-11 on the season while the Hornets improve to 6-10 overall.

UCI won the doubles point with victories at Nos. 2 and 3. The duo of Flora Amiri and Arianna Tilbury got things started defeating Sac State's Ana Loaiza and Jenna Dorian, 6-3, at No. 2. Stephanie Nguyen and Yulin Chen won a 6-3 decision on court three against Shamika Dhar and Frana Ugarkovic.

The Hornets won at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles to seal the victory.

Stephanie Hazell dropped a 3-6, 3-6 decision at the top spot to Loaiza and Nguyen fell on court two by a score of 2-6, 1-6. The Hornets Sofia Gulnova defeated Amiri at No. 3, 4-6, 1-6, and Frana Ugarkovic defeated UCI's Jacqueline Tsodikova, 2-6, 3-6 at No. 6.

Yulin Chen was in a battle with Dorian at No. 4, 6-7 (4-7), 2-1, before the match was abandoned. On court five, Arianna Tilbury was tied in the second set with Dhar, 4-4, when the match was called.

Next, UCI continues Big West play with a match against Cal State Fullerton Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m.
