FULLERTON, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback to Big West opponent Cal State Fullerton, Saturday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts.
UCI drops to 0-4 in conference play and 8-12 on the season while CSF improves to 16-4 overall and 4-1 in the Big West.
The Anteaters dropped all three doubles contests as the Titans went into singles play with a 1-0 lead. UCI's
Flora Amiri and
Arianna Tilbury battled it out on No. 2 but ultimately dropped a 7-6 decision. At the top spot,
Stephanie Hazell and
Danielle Garrido fell to Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin, 6-2.
CSF clinched the match when Portalatin defeted Amiri on court three, 6-1, 6-2.
Yulin Chen battled with Luxizi Meng at No. 4, taking the match into three sets, before falling, 6-4, 6-7, 10-5.
At the top spot, previously ranked Genevieve Zeidan defeated
Stephanie Hazell, 6-3, 6-2.
Stephanie Nguyen had to retire at No. 2 and Tilbury and
Gillian Parker fell on courts five and six, respectively.
UCI returns home for a Big West match against CSUN tomorrow at 11 a.m.
