UCI Splits Doubleheader in Hawai'i

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The UC Irvine women's tennis team split a pair of matches on a trip to Hawai'i Saturday in Honolulu. The Anteaters were swept 7-0 by Big West opponent Hawai'i before coming back to sweep Chaminade, 7-0.
With the split UCI moves to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the Big West.
Hawai'i 7, UC Irvine 0
The Rainbow Warriors (5-3, 2-1) took an early lead as they won two out of three doubles matches to clinch the point. At No. 3 doubles, Stephanie Nguyen and Arianna Tilbury were tied, 3-3, with HU's Marina Hruba and Michelle Pits but the match was called after Hawai'i clinched the point.
HU went on to win all six singles matches.
Nguyen put up a fight at the No. 2 spot but was ultimately defeated in three sets, 6-7, 7-5, 10-7. Flora Amiri also fell in three sets on court five, 4-6, 6-0, 10-0.

UCI bounced right back, handily defeating Chaminade in its second game of the day.
The Anteaters swept in doubles, winning on all three courts without dropping a sinlge point to the Swords.
In singles, Flora Amiri, Yulin Chen, Jacqueline Tsodikova and Gillian Parker won on courts two, three, five and six, respectively without dropping a sinlge point to their opponents.
Vivien Dvali won at the top spot with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Catrina Liner.
UCI will return home to host Bradley at Palisades Tennis Club in Newport Beach Thursday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m.
