ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Senior Persis William-Mensah highlighted a handful of impressive performances by UC Irvine's 200m runners as she broke her own school record to kick off the Don Kirby Invitational Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

William-Mensah clocked in at 24.19 seconds (24.26 converted) to place 13th among an elite field of 107 competitors. The Costa Mesa native beat her previous record of 24.38, which she established at the same meet a year ago.

William-Mensah was the top performer out of the Big West schools in attendance. Nine of the top-12 individual finishers were from the Pac-12, including eight from third-ranked Oregon. It is her second program record of the 2018 campaign as she also set a new 60m standard at the season-opening Lumberjack Team Challenge (7.38).

Junior Hope Bushnell added a lifetime-best 24.43 (24.50) to pass Erin Curtis for second in the Anteater record books. She came in 20th overall.

Freshman Mikayla Scott improved on her No. 5 mark in school history with a career-best 25.17 (25.24), while junior Julia Sambvani cracked the top-10 with a time of 25.49 (25.56).

Scott also led a trio of 'Eaters in the unseeded 400m as she finished 20th in a personal-record 56.92 seconds (57.03). Scott remained at No. 3 in UCI history. Senior Simone Buchanan notched a season-best 57.35 (57.46) for a top-30 showing.

Junior Barbara Coward paced UC Irvine's field athletes on Friday, coming in 15th in the weight throw with a toss of 54-07.5. Sophomore Brianna Villanueva also took 30th at 48-05.25.

The Anteaters resume action at the Don Kirby Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 10, starting with the shot put at 8:30 a.m. (PST).
