UCI Falls to CBU, 12-11, on Senior Night

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 11 UC Irvine men's water polo team overcame a 6-3 halftime deficit, knotting the game 11-11 with 59 seconds to play before No. 14 CBU scored in the final 15 seconds to seal the 12-11 victory Wednesday night at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

UCI falls to 8-14 on the season while the Lancers improve to 22-10.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Bryant Joudrie had a hat trick, scoring a team-best three goals. He also led the team in assists with three and steals with two
> Jack Trush and Jon Polos each had two goals
> Chandler Mankins made eight stops in the cage and tallied one steal
> UCI out-shot CBU 34-28
> The 'Eaters were 4-12 on powerplays while the Lancers' finished 4-9
> UCI held the advantage in steals, 7-2

TURNING POINTS
> CBU took an early 2-0 lead (6:14) before Polos put the 'Eaters on the board with 3:40 left in the first quarter
> The Lancers scored again before Lynton notched a powerplay goal with nine seconds in the first frame to make it 3-2
> CBU out-scored UCI 3-1 in the second quarter to take a 6-3 advantage into halftime
> Joudrie had the 'Eaters lone goal in the second frame
> UCI got things going on offense scoring four goals to close the gap, 8-7, after the third quarter
> Trush, Ian Fleenor, Polos and Mile Kalbus each had a goal in the frame
> The two teams exchanged back-and-forth goals in the fourth quarter before Trush scored at 3:33 to tie the game, 10-10
> CBU answered with a goal to re-take the lead, 11-10 (1:36)
> Trush drew a five-meter penalty and Jason Evezard converted the penalty shot to make it, 11-11, with just 59 seconds to play
> The game looked like it was heading to overtime but the Lancers' Lotero found Kyle Johnson who was able to net the game-winner with 15 seconds left to play to seal the 12-11 win

> Joudrie led the 'Eaters in scoring for the first time this season
> Mankins started his fourth game in goal
> Trush and Kalbus each scored in their final career home game
> UCI recognized four seniors, Trush, Kalbus, Byron Rivers and Carlo Silvestre before the game
