Postseason Bound: UC Irvine Returns To NIVC

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine was selected to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) and will play at UNLV Thursday (Nov. 29) at Cox Pavilion.
UCI will face the Lady Rebels at 7:00 p.m. following the Fresno State (20-10) and UC Santa Barbara (17-11) match at 4:30 p.m.
The winners of Thursday's matches will play on Friday (Nov. 30) at 7:00 p.m.
"I am most proud of the team's resilience this season despite more adversity than usual," head coach Ashlie Hain said. "This will be another great opportunity for our program to grow and learn about ourselves in a postseason environment with the ultimate goal of one day returning to the NCAA Tournament."
It is the second consecutive year the Anteaters will participate in the post-season tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals of the NIVC in 2017.
The Anteaters are 16-12 overall, finishing third in the Big West with a 10-6 record, while UNLV is 19-11 overall and tied for fifth in the Mountain West with a 10-8 mark.
The two teams met last year in Las Vegas with UCI taking a 3-2 victory at the UNLV Challenge.
The National Invitational Volleyball Championship is a single-elimination event with a field of 32 teams. Rounds 1 and 2 will take place Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 1-2 with Round 3 taking place Dec. 5-7. The semifinals will be held Dec. 7-9 followed by the championship on Dec. 11 at 4:00 p.m. PT.
