ESTERO, Fla. – The UC Irvine men's basketball team fell to Toledo, 67-60, in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase, Wednesday at Hertz Arena.
The Anteaters suffered their first loss of the season, moving to 6-1 overall. Toledo improved to 5-1 overall.
John Edgar Jr. was named to the All-Tournament team after finishing with 36 points (12.0 ppg) and 15 rebounds (3.0 rpg).

> Toledo scored five-straight points to go up, 20-18, with 7:54 remaining but the Anteaters went on a 10-3 run down the stretch to take a 30-27 lead into the locker rooms
> Cartwright capped the run with a made three-pointer with seven seconds left on the clock
> Edgar Jr. had 10 points in the frame
Second Half
> UCI held on to a 38-31 lead with 15:46 to play but the Rockets went on a 12-0 run to jump in front 43-38 (12:07)
> Edgar Jr. stopped the Toledo run with a layup followed by a Galloway dunk to bring the game within three, 45-42, with 11:17 to play
> The Rockets followed that up with a 10-4 run to stretch the lead to 10 points, 61-51, with 3:04 remaining
> Two layups from Galloway in the final minute brought UCI within seven points but it wasn't enough as the 'Eaters dropped their first game of the season, 67-60
