ESTERO, Fla. – The UC Irvine men's basketball team fell to Toledo, 67-60, in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase, Wednesday at Hertz Arena.

The Anteaters suffered their first loss of the season, moving to 6-1 overall. Toledo improved to 5-1 overall.

John Edgar Jr. was named to the All-Tournament team after finishing with 36 points (12.0 ppg) and 15 rebounds (3.0 rpg).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> John Edgar Jr. led the 'Eaters with a season-best 16 points on 7-14 shooting from the field
> Max Hazzard and Jonathan Galloway each finished in double-digit scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively
> Galloway tallied a double-double after pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds
> Robert Cartwright led UCI with three assists
> The 'Eaters shot 37.5 percent (24-64) from the floor and 21.1 percent (4-19) from behind the three-point line
> UCI was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line
> Toledo shot 43.5 percent (27-62) from the field and 35.3 (6-17) from long range. The Rockets out-rebounded the Anteaters 40-37 and out-scored UCI on second chance points (18-11) and points off the bench (18-13)

First Half
> Edgar Jr. scored eight-straight points to start the game as UCI trailed 12-8 (14:36)
> A Collin Welp jumper began a 7-0 run for the 'Eaters giving UCI an 18-15 lead with 9:51 to play
> Toledo scored five-straight points to go up, 20-18, with 7:54 remaining but the Anteaters went on a 10-3 run down the stretch to take a 30-27 lead into the locker rooms
> Cartwright capped the run with a made three-pointer with seven seconds left on the clock
> Edgar Jr. had 10 points in the frame

Second Half
> UCI held on to a 38-31 lead with 15:46 to play but the Rockets went on a 12-0 run to jump in front 43-38 (12:07)
> Edgar Jr. stopped the Toledo run with a layup followed by a Galloway dunk to bring the game within three, 45-42, with 11:17 to play
> The Rockets followed that up with a 10-4 run to stretch the lead to 10 points, 61-51, with 3:04 remaining
> Two layups from Galloway in the final minute brought UCI within seven points but it wasn't enough as the 'Eaters dropped their first game of the season, 67-60

NOTES
> 6-1 is the best start for the Anteaters
> Galloway had his second double-double of the season and fifth of his career
> Edgar Jr. led UCI in scoring for the first time this season
> This was the first meeting between Toledo and UCI in program history
