SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's tennis team had all 10 players in action on the first day of the Aztec Fall Invitational Friday in San Diego.

The day started with doubles where five UCI tandems competed against teams from UCSD, Pacific and Southern Utah.

In flight two, Daniel Gealer and Bruce Man-Son-Hing topped UCSD's Zac Ermert and Neil Tengbumroong, 6-4.

Antoine Barthe/Mike Mkrtchian fell, 6-1, to the Tritons' David Higgins and Sahm Irvine while Vatsal Bajpai and Sasha Krasnov dropped a 6-3 decision to UOP's Jonathan Lieu/John Garner. Rounding out flight one was the newly formed duo of Aaron Bailey and Mason Hansen who dropped to SU's Remus Cope and Keonho Shin, 6-2.

In flight one, Luis Lopez and Mateusz Smolicki defeated UCSD's Sreeganesh Manoharan and Marc Isaia by a score of 6-2.

In the singles warrior flight, Daniel Gelaer defeated GCU's Leo Andreolli 6-0, 6-4, in the round of 32 before beating SDSU's Nicholas Mitchell 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 16. He is set to play SU's Juan Erro in tomorrow's quarterfinals.

Aaron Bailey also advanced out of the round of 32 for UCI with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over UCSD's Zach Emert. Bailey went on to beat SDSU's Rafael Gonzalez 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In consolation singes, Bruce Man-Son-Hing earned a 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 win over UCSD's Riku Hashiyada while Vatsal Bajpai defeated UCSD's David Higgins 6-3, 6-3 and Mason Hansen beat the Tritons' Richard Han 4-6, 6-0, 10-8. Mike Mkrtchian won against UOP's John Garner 3-6, 6-4, 10-1.   All four Anteaters advance to tomorrow's consolation quarterfinals.

In the singles Aztec flight, Luis Lopez defeated SU's Agustin Tamagnone 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals in the championship bracket.

Sasha Krasnov and Mateusz Smolicki both suffered losses in the round of 16 to move into the consolation bracket. Krasnov bounced back to defeat USD's Aaron Rostami 6-0, 6-3 to advance to tomorrow's consolation semifinal.

The Aztec Fall Invitational will resume on Saturday, Oct. 6.
