SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
This is the first meeting of the year with the Mustangs. Cal Poly is the only team the Anteaters haven't faced this season.
Cal Poly suffered only their second loss of the year with a 3-2 defeat at Hawaii last Friday.
The Mustangs are 19-2 overall and 9-1 in conference play. The loss in Hawaii snapped a program-record 25 consecutive Big West wins dating back to 2016. Pittsburgh was the only other team to take down Cal Poly in the second match of the year.
UC Riverside is 7-14 on the year and 2-7 in the Big West.
Last week, the Highlanders lost to Cal Baptist 3-2 then beat Cal State Fullerton 3-2.
UCR will face CSUN on Tuesday before entertaining UCI.
When the two teams met in Irvine earlier this season, Makayla Wolfe had a team-high 12 kills. Nailah Jones and Christina Escamilla led UC Riverside with 11 kills apiece.
The Titans are 6-17 overall and 0-10 in the Big West after falling to the Highlanders in their lone match last week.
Cal State Fullerton will host UC Davis on Friday night.
In the first meeting, UCI hit .340 (44-9-103), the second best offensive performance of the year. Abby Marjama had 12 kills and 10 digs, while Loryn Carter had 11 kills, hitting .474 (11-2-19). Idara Akpakpa did not commit an error with nine kills on 13 attempts, hitting .692.
