Men's Tennis Reveals 2017-18 Schedule

Complete Schedule

IRVINE, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's tennis team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

The 'Eaters have three tournaments on their fall slate, beginning with the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 30-Oct. 9. They will also take part in the SDSU Invitational (Oct. 6-8) and the ITA Southwest Regional Championships (Oct. 19-23).

"Our fall includes two tournaments where we will see the best of the best in college tennis," UCI head coach Mike Saunders said. "Both the ITA All-American Tournament in Tulsa and the ITA Southwest Regional will have several of the top-ranked teams and players competing."

The Anteaters will then have about three months to gear up for their dual-match season, which starts on Friday, Jan. 19, at the University of San Diego. UC Irvine's home opener follows on Sunday, Jan. 21, with a doubleheader against Grand Canyon and UC San Diego.

UCI then hits the road for the month of February as it is set to square off against Pac-12 members USC and Utah, while also traveling to Utah State, San Francisco and Pacific.

The 'Eaters will be rewarded for their early travels with a nine-match homestand in March. They begin the stretch against Boston College on March 5, before entertaining Loyola Marymount (March 7), Villanova (March 7) and Boston University (March 9).

UC Irvine also has a busy stretch with five matches over four days as it welcomes Idaho (March 13), Lehigh (March 13), Gonzaga (March 15), Yale (March 16) and Liberty (March 16) to Anteater Tennis Stadium.

UCI then travels to UCLA for the fifth year in a row before closing out its non-conference home schedule against Eastern Washington (March 28) and BYU (March 30).

"Our non-conference schedule is much more competitive this year and will hopefully prepare us for the Big West, which gets better and better every year," Saunders said.

Overall, UC Irvine is set to face six teams that advanced to the 2017 NCAA Tournament, including the Bruins who made it to the quarterfinals.

The 'Eaters start Big West play at home vs. Cal Poly on March 31, while they also host conference opponents Hawai'i (April 11) and UC Riverside (April 13). The Big West Tournament is set for April 26-29 in Indian Wells, Calif.

Anteater Tennis Stadium, home of the UC Irvine men's and women's tennis teams, is in the final phase of renovations that will enhance both the student-athlete and fan experience. The $650,000 project, which is expected to be completed in October, features eight refurbished courts, new LED lights, new fencing and windscreens and a shade structure for the spectator seating area.
