SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's cross country team finished second at the Master's University XC Invitational Saturday morning at Santa Clarita's Central Park.

The 'Eaters scored 56 points to finish behind only Pac-12 member UCLA (28) in the NCAA Division I team standings.

Sophomore
Anastasia Karnaze continued to lead the way as she was the team's top finisher for the third time in as many races this season. Karnaze placed 13th out of 166 overall runners, and second among NCAA Division I athletes, completing the 5000-meter course in 18:13.1.

Senior
Jenessa Reyes crossed the finish line next for UCI with a 32nd-place showing (18:52.5). Sophomore
Keely Boyd was also 55th with a 5K personal-record 19:17.1, while junior
Megan Mirkhanian was 62nd (19:25.0). Sophomore
Brenda Dorantes followed in 84th (19:56.9) to round out the Anteaters' top five.

Freshman
Amy Flores also competed in her first collegiate 5K, clocking in at 20:58.9 (116th).

Cal State Bakersfield's Angel Valdez won the women's collegiate 5K in 17:34.8.

UC Irvine will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 14, when it heads to Riverside for the Highlander Classic. It is the Anteaters' final tune-up before the Big West Championships on Oct. 28.
