IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine dropped an Anteater Ballpark record 10 runs on the UCLA Bruins Tuesday night in the fourth inning to propel them to a 12-4 win.
UCLA (28-24) had jumped out to a 1-0 lead the inning before on a solo HR by Ryan Kreidler to lead off the third inning. The Bruins even got the first two outs of the fourth inning before the Anteaters (21-32, 7-14) attacked.
A harmless walk to Adrian Damla gave way to Cole Kreuter who bombed a two-run HR just barely fair to give UCI the 2-1 lead. Three straight walks led to a two-run single by Keston Hiura, and he and Mikey Duarte would each come around on wild pitches. The rally started back up with a walk to Ryan Fitzpatrick who would score on a Ryan Johnston RBI single, and Cole Kreuter would strike again for another two-run hit . Alex Guenette brought home the tenth run on a ground-rule double into the corner completing the highest-scoring inning in ballpark history in which every player scored a run in.
The game remained 10-1 until a couple more runs game home on Hiura's fourth hit of the game and a Parker Coss sac fly, his eighth on the year to tie for the single-season record, making it 12-1 after seven innings.
UCLA spoiled Michael Martin's chance at a three-inning save with three runs in the ninth, but Miles Glazier put a stop to it sealing the 12-4 victory.
Calvin Faucher pitched well enough in his second career start to earn his second win of the season allowing one run in four innings. Anteater pitchers struck out nine altogether on the evening while Bruin pitchers walked 10 Anteaters. Moises Ceja took the loss despite just two runs allowed in 3.2 innings.
Kreuter finished with four RBI on the night, and had multiple hits along with Johnston and Coss. Keston Hiura raised his average to .419 with four hits while driving home three, scoring twice, and stealing his ninth base. He also doubled bringing him ever-closer to the all-time doubles mark now with 51 on the season.
The 'Eaters close out the non-conference portion of their season going 14-18, and also finished an even 6-6 in midweek contests.
The final weekend series of the season begins Thursday night as UCI will host UC Davis starting at 6:30 p.m. Game two will also come at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with the season wrapping up Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
