RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- UC Irvine won a third straight game thanks to the power of Evan Cassolato and precision of Louis Raymond led the 'Eaters to a 12-4 win Friday night over UC Riverside at Riverside Sports Complex.
The Anteaters (20-30, 7-12) rolled an early 3-0 lead from consecutive RBI singles in the first inning off starter Ryan Lillie. Evan Cassolato would push it to 4-0 with a long solo HR in the next inning, and then as UCR (19-29, 5-14) got the run back, he clobbered a second home run out to RF sparking a four-run inning and pushing the lead to 8-1.
As the Anteaters continued to add to their lead, Louis Raymond put up an impressive effort of his own settling in after a pair of triples came home early in the game to shutout UCR from the fifth to the seventh en route to his fourth win of the season, 12-4.
His offense picked him up with 19 hits to tie the team's high on the season with Adam Alcantara joining Cassolato with three-hit games, and five other Anteaters putting together multi-hit nights. Alcantara brought home a game-high four RBI, Cassolato added three, and he scored three times as part of five Anteaters with multiple runs scored.
Raymond tossed his ninth quality start of the season allowing two earned runs over seven innings scattering nine hits and striking out four. His counterpart, Lillie, lasted just 3.1 innings allowing as many hits, 10, as he recorded outs. Cody Sporrer scored twice stemming from his two triples, and Colby Schultz put up three hits from the leadoff spot.
The 'Eaters have put up their first three-game win streak since early March as they hit the 20-win mark and nab the upperhand in the series. UCI can work a second straight series win on Saturday as the two programs go at it at 6:00 p.m. once again on ESPN3.
