
'Eaters in Second Place at Cal Poly Shootout

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. --- UC Irvine is tied for second place following the first day of competition in the Cal Poly Shootout at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande.
The Anteaters and New Mexico State have totals of 715 after Monday's two rounds as UC Santa Barbara leads at 697. UCI shot a 13-under 347 as a team in the second round in the 6-count-5 scoring format.
Junior David Kim and senior Bryan Shin are second and third, respectively. Kim is at 8-under 136 following 36 holes, including a 7-under 65 in the second round.
Kim led the field with 13 birdies and was 5-under on the par-4 holes.
Shin shot par-72 in the opening round and followed that with a 6-under 66 to sit at 138. He was third in the field Monday with 25 pars and he was 6-under in par-5 scoring.
Junior Ryan O'Connor shot two rounds each of 71 and is 13th at 142, junior Jonathan Young is 26th at 148 (78-70), sophomore Chris Parkinson is 35th at 151 (76-75) and freshman Jonathan Kang is in 49th place at 155 (80-75).
Luis Medina of New Mexico State is in first place at 11-under 133 after rounds of 65-68.
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
