Anteaters Continue Play at Pac Coast Doubles Championship

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's tennis team wrapped up the second day of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship Saturday at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

The Anteaters' tandem of sophomore Mason Hansen and Tyler Pham highlighted the afternoon with a pair of victories in the consolation bracket. They topped Aidan McNulty/Kent Mukai of Boston College, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, before coming from behind to take down Toledo's Stephen Miller/Luka Vitosevic, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. The duo will face Stjepan Sisko and Thawin Suksathaporn in the semifinals tomorrow at 9 a.m. The consolation championship will then follow at 12 p.m.

In the other fourth round consolation matches, junior Andrew Gong and sophomore Anil Patel dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Matthew Fisher and Justin Steuber. Sophomore Vatsal Bajpai and freshman Derek Chen also came up short against Adam Levie/Toki Sherbakor, 6-2, 6-4.

UC Irvine will return to dual match play on Monday, March 6, when it hosts Villanova at Anteater Tennis Stadium (1 p.m.).
