UC Irvine in Sixth after First Round of Del Walker

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- UC Irvine was in sixth place after the opening round of the 21st annual Del Walker Intercollegiate as the second round was suspended due to darkness at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.
The Anteaters shot 292 in the first round as Cal Poly was first at 277, Boise State second at 285 and Utah State third at 286.
Junior Jonathan Young led UCI with an even-par 70 in the initial round for sixth place.
David Kim shot 73 for 27th place, Ryan O'Connor was 37th with a 74, Chris Parkinson 46th following a 75 and Jefferson Kao 52nd after opening with a 76. Johnny Hyun, competing as an individual, shot 74 to tie for 37th.
Justin De Los Santos of Cal Poly led after one round with a 5-under 65.
The second round is scheduled to resume at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, immediately followed by the final round.
