IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine spring season begins with a premier battle between the current Anteater squad and a crew of collegiate and professional standouts. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. and be played in Anteater Stadium. Here are some of the Local Legends and their playing credentials:
CoCo Goodson: UC Irvine
Two-time All American with the Anteaters, she was drafted 12th overall in the 2012 WPS Draft to the Philadelphia Independence and the league folding before the season began, Goodson played for the Dutch professional side, FC Twente. She made 19 starts in 19 matches and scored one goal as a defender for the team. In 2013, Goodson was drafted to Sky Blue FC during the third round of the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft (21st overall) for the inaugural season of the National Women's Soccer League. During her second cap with the team playing the defender position, she scored her first goal in a match against the Washington Spirit helping her team secure a 2–1 win. Goodson ended the 2013 season having started in all 23 games that she played for Sky Blue and scored one goal.
Becca Wilson: Cal State Fullerton
Named All-West Region as a senior and was in the running for the MAC Hermann Trophy along with being named Academic All-Conference, All-Big West First Team, and Big West Offensive Player of the Year. 15 career game-winning goals rank first in program history, and her 81 career points and 33 career goals each rank third all-time while her 19 single-season goals rank second all-time.
Yael Friedman Averbuch: North Carolina, U.S. National Team
She currently plays for the FC Kansas City in the National Women's Soccer League. Averbuch played for the United States at every level of the youth national teams, and as of 2013 played for the United States women's national soccer team. During her career as a center midfielder at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Averbuch was named national player of the year by both Soccer Buzz and Top Drawer Soccer. Averbuch was selected in the first round of the 2009 WPS Draft (4th overall) by her home state team, Sky Blue FC. She played for Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC in the Damallsvenskan of the UEFA Women's Champions League, and made a brief stint with WFC Rossiyanka. She is a two-time WPS champion with Sky Blue FC and the Western New York Flash. In her collegiate career, she set an NCAA record for the fastest goal scored in a game when she scored four seconds into the match at Yale in 2006 on a shot taken directly after the kickoff touch. She's a two-time ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was one of three finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy award in 2006 for top college player in the country. She received the NCAA VIII award, given to 8 seniors nationwide for athletic/academic/community achievements, and her number is retired at UNC.
Lindsey Huie: University of Portland, U.S. National Team
U.S. Women's National Team member since 2005 earning her first cap in the 2005 Algarve Cup. Huie was a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist to go along with her fourth All-American nod and College Cup All-Tournament Team honor as she helped Portland to its second national championship in 2005.
Jenny Anderson Hammond: Clemson
Jenny Anderson-Hammond was a four-year starter at Clemson University. At Clemson, she was a two-year captain as an upperclassman. She earned Freshman All-American honors from Soccerbuzz.com in 2001 and was twice named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Rolland Clemson Dean's List. In 2005 she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. While completing a master's degree in sports management at the University of Kansas, Anderson-Hammond was the director of soccer operations during the 2005-06 seasons. She spent 2007 as a volunteer assistant while continuing to serve as a club coach with the Kansas Soccer Academy. In March of 2008, she was named the new assistant coach for Eastern Illinois women's soccer under head coach Tim Nowak. In October of 2008, Anderson-Hammond was the 22nd overall draft pick by the New Jersey Sky Blue of the Women's Professional Soccer league. In 2010, she played with the Buffalo Flash where her team went on to win the 2010 W-league championship. She's currently training teams with Chelsea FC.
Chelsey Patterson: Cal State Fullerton
Earned All-Big West Second Team honors in 2013 on top of two Academic All-Conference honors. She closed out her career as a Senior CLASS Award candidate in 2014.
Clarissa Robles: UC Irvine, Mexico National Team
Robles earned All-Big West Second Team honors on two occasions along with Big West Defensive Player of the Week as a junior. She made her debut with the Mexican National Team in 2015, and rejoined them recently starting in a friendly match against Canada.
Caroline Van Slambrouck: University of Kansas
Member of the Houston Dash in 2016, she was a four-time honoree of the Athletic Director's & Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Rolls. She was also a two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Katie Johnson: USC, Mexico National Team
She was drafted by Seattle Reign FC in the 2017 NWSL College Draft and competed in 2016 Rio Olympics qualifying with the Mexican National Team scoring one goal. Johnson was named the Most Outstanding Player on Offense in the 2016 College Cup scoring the only goal in the semifinal and two goals in the final to lead USC to its second national championship in women's soccer. She earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention in 2013.
Mary Schmidt: Texas A&M
She helped the Aggies to 10 shutouts in 2009 and was named the team's "Newcomer of the Year" and to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team after starting in 23 of 25 games. Schmidt was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie Second Team in 2009, and was named to consecutive Academic All-Big 12 teams in 2010 and 2011.
Natalia Ledezma: UC Irvine
Two-time All-West Region and All-Big West First Team with the Anteaters highlighted by a 12-goal, 8-assist, and 32-point season to go with three game-winning goals. She began her career at UCLA where she played 18 matches as a freshman.
Sarah Devine: UC Irvine
Member of the San Diego SeaLions of the WPSL where she captained the 2013 squad while leading it to a national championship. Devine was named All-Big West First Team in 2011, and is now an assistant coach at UC Riverside.
Jo Blankenship: LMU
Departed LMU as a four-time All-West Coast Conference honoree, three-time WCC All-Academic honoree, and two-time NSCAA All-West Region honoree. At the conclusion of her senior season, her 14 career goals ranked tied for seventh all-time, her 22 career assists ranked first all-time, her 50 career points ranked second all-time, her 195 career shots ranked second all-time, and her 80 career appearances ranked tied for first all-time.
